Most Middle Eastern households have three table condiments. Salt and Pepper, just like us, but, the third is Zahtar. This seasoning is very versatile, being used on meats veggies, pizza, marinades and dressings. It is notoriously used with olive oil to create a spread on various breads.
Alternate spellings: za’atar, zaatar, za’tar, zatar, zatr, zattr, zahatar, zaktar or satar.
