Celery seed has a very strong flavor, and should be treated like concentrated celery. Using just a little bit can greatly enhance the flavor of foods, while too much will overpower them. Cooking or toasting the seeds enhances their sweetness while reducing bitterness.
Whole celery seed is commonly used to flavor and decorate bread. Celery seed is also used to add strong flavor to potato salad, soups, meat dishes, and in picking.
