Madras Curry Powder originated in the south of India. The curry gets its name from the city known as Madras when English merchants arrived there in the 1600’s (the city is now known as Chennai). The name ‘Madras Curry’ is not commonly used in India, but was invented by restaurants in Britain. Madras curry is fairly hot compared to standard curry powder.
