Brown Mustard Seeds are smaller, hotter and more pungent than the milder yellow mustard seeds. A brown mustard seed can actually be brown or black in color. The seeds are the key ingredient in spicy dijon mustard.
Brown Mustard Seeds are most often used in Indian and Asian cuisines. Whole brown mustard seeds can be roasted to bring out their hazelnut-like undertones.

Question
I have purchased these seeds from you many times in the past for my mustard-making business, and I am wondering is this crop is the same quality as previous years (i.e. same supplier/farm?) I have had quality control issues with other suppliers and spice companies but I have never had any product concerns with your brown mustard seeds so I want to make sure all is well before I purchase them (since they cost twice as much now as the last time I bought them from you.)

Amy,
Unfortunately crop change year to year and even from the same farm the flavor might vary. This is the case with all spices and herbs, it all depends on climate that year, soil that year. Being in this business for 32 years I wish I could tell you this lot is the exact same on anything They are from the same source and yes the price is through the roof because of short supply. Not supply chain, the crop was scarce this year.
